Quickdraws

The avid climber uses quickdraws so they can attach their rope to protection points while there are lead climbing. A quickdraw is a textile sling with a carabiner on both ends. They are sometimes called extenders and are very useful pieces of equipment for mountaineering and climbing. The main function of the quickdraw is connect the rope so that the climber is protected, but some of the other requirements have led to the quickdraws evolving in distinct ways to accommodate different types of climbing.

Climbers are usually following devious lines. The climber that is skillful will use the quickdraw to the rope straight on the path to avoid changes in the direction of the rope. This is done to reduce friction, which enables more fluid movement when climbing and less rope drag.
